Our People


Alan L. Farkas established the firm in 1983 after eight years at Booz Allen Hamilton, where he was a partner and vice president. For over 30 years, he has helped firms develop long-range strategies, diversify into new markets, and improve organizational effectiveness. He leads the firm’s strategy development practice. He holds A.B. and M.A. degrees in international relations from Princeton and Yale Universities, respectively.

 
Joan B. Berkowitz, Ph.D. began her management consulting career at Arthur D. Little, where she was a vice president. She specializes in analyzing environmental and infrastructure markets in support of the firm’s strategy practice. She has a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the University of Illinois and is a graduate of the senior executive program of the MIT Sloan School. She is an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland.

In addition, the principals draw on a small staff of associates and an extensive network of affiliated consultants with expertise in corporate finance, organizational development, compensation and benefits, federal government contracting, and a wide range of scientific and engineering disciplines. As an example of this talent base, we profile some of our associates below:


Chris Frangione has over 12 years experience as a corporate executive and management consultant. His experience includes the promotion and development of renewable energy and clean coal technologies. Since joining the firm in early 2004, he has assisted our clients by conducting surveys of their customers, by evaluating markets for diversification, and by advising on entry strategies. He leads the firm’s market assessment practice. Chris holds an M.B.A. and Masters of Environmental Management from Duke University and a B.A. in Environmental Policy from Colby College.

Margaret Downs has over 25 years experience as a management consultant and industry executive. She began her consulting career at Bain & Company, and she later served as executive vice president of Bain Capital, a private equity firm. At Farkas Berkowitz, she leads the organizational development practice. She holds an M.B.A. and a B.A. from Harvard University and has done graduate work in organizational psychology at Columbia University.

L. Edward Wilson enjoyed a distinguished career as a geotechnical engineer and entrepreneur before launching a career in management consulting and private equity investment over 15 years ago. He leads the firm’s M&A practice, and he has served as an advisor on over 25 transactions. He holds a degree in civil engineering from Tennessee Technological University.

Cheryl A. Gardner has spent most of her over 30-year career as a management consultant. She specializes in organizational development, and is an expert in the design of employee and customer satisfaction surveys. She holds a D.B.A from George Washington University, an M.B.A. from the University of Southern California, and a B.A. in economics from Smith College.

Dahlia Radley-Kingsley has over 15 years of consulting experience. She is a specialist in organizational development consulting and executive coaching. She has advised executives from a wide variety of industries. She holds an M.B.A from the Wharton School, an M.A. from the Lauder Institute at the University of Pennsylvania, and a B.A. from Princeton University.

Flora Taylor has over 15 years experience as an organizational development consultant, executive coach, and group dynamics specialist. Her clients have included a variety of Fortune 500 companies, engineering firms, and not-for-profit organizations. Flora earned her A.B. cum laude from Harvard University, and her Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. She is a licensed psychologist.

Sarah L. Chittenden has over 10 years experience in management consulting, starting with two years at A.T. Kearney. She serves as Executive Director to the Water Design-Build Council (WDBC), a trade association promoting alternative delivery for municipal water and wastewater projects. The WDBC is one of the firm’s clients. At Farkas Berkowitz, she applies her skills in research, public relations, writing, and graphic design. Fluent in French, she holds B.A. and M.A. degrees in French literature from the University of Kansas.
